Landslides Wipe Out Entire Village in Jebel Marra

Darfur – Sudanhorizon

The civil authority affiliated with the Sudan Liberation Movement revealed on Monday that all residents of a village in Jebel Marra, Central Darfur State, had died following landslides triggered by heavy rains.

In a statement, the authority said: “All the residents of Tarsin village, estimated at more than one thousand people, died on Sunday, with only one survivor, according to preliminary information.”

It noted that the residents of the village, located in the central part of Jebel Marra, perished as a result of massive landslides caused by the torrential rains that fell during the last week of August.

The area of Tarsin, which was struck by this natural disaster, is one of Jebel Marra’s most well-known citrus-producing regions.

The statement called on the United Nations, as well as regional and international organizations, to assist the civil authority in recovering the bodies of the victims.
