Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa
The Governor of Kurmuk in the Blue Nile Region, Abdel Ati Mohamed Al-Faki, has stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces currently hold the initiative in the ongoing battles in the southern part of the region, particularly in Kurmuk locality.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Al-Faki said that the armed forces had succeeded in destroying the forward defense positions of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the SPLM-North faction led by Joseph Tuka in the areas of Al-Baraka, Khor Al-Qana, and Khor Halabiya. He noted that the continued military advance has made the army’s entry into the city of Kurmuk imminent.
The Kurmuk governor said that the city had recently been subjected to widespread destruction affecting public service institutions, including hospitals and water facilities, in addition to looting operations that targeted the city’s market. He accused the militias of being responsible for these violations.
Al-Faki added that developments on the ground indicate that the battle is nearing a decisive conclusion in favor of the Sudanese Armed Forces. He expressed expectations that the coming hours would witness the announcement of the liberation of Kurmuk and the full restoration of the city from militia control.
