Kurmuk Commissioner: Liberation of Maqja Leads to Lifting Kurmuk Siege

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
Kurmuk Province Commissioner, Abdul-Ati Muhammad Al-Faki, confirmed that the liberation of the city of Maqja today will significantly contribute to lifting the siege on Kaumuk and opening the road leading to it.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon news website, Al-Faki explained that Maqja is located within the Baw region and is considered an important rear base for Kurmuk. He announced that important news regarding the liberation of Al-Kurmuk would be forthcoming following this major victory in Maqja.
Regarding the situation of displaced persons, Al-Faki indicated that there are two camps for displaced people, one in Damazin and the other within Kurmuk, noting that their numbers are estimated at about 7,000.
He added that there are still shortcomings in providing food, shelter, and health services, calling on international and local organizations to intensify their efforts and provide more assistance to address these difficult humanitarian conditions.
He emphasized that the level of intervention by organizations remains weak. The 4th Infantry Division – Blue Nile Lions, supported by allied forces, achieved a significant victory on Monday against the rebel militia and its mercenaries, liberating the town of Maqja.
The official spokesperson for the Blue Nile government, Saif al-Nasr Manallah Mahmoud, confirmed that the militia suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment in Maqja.
He noted that this victory is part of the ongoing operations and field activities conducted by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) through the 4th Infantry Division and its units, aimed at securing the area and clearing it of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia.
