Kiir Sends Burhan A Message on Bilateral Relations and Cooperation

A high-level delegation from South Sudan arrived in Port Sudan on Sunday, headed by Tut Gatluak, the President’s Advisor for Security Affairs. The delegation delivered a written message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit to the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on bilateral relations and prospects for joint cooperation in various fields.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muawiya Othman Khalid, stated in a press release that the meeting addressed the strong ties between the two nations.

He explained that the Chairman of the Sovereign Council directed all state institutions at the ministerial and technical levels to engage with their counterparts in South Sudan to discuss issues of mutual interest, particularly in vital sectors such as energy, oil, trade, and the economy, in addition to political relations between the two countries.

He also noted the supportive stance of the government and people of South Sudan towards Sudan.

For his part, South Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Mandi Seimaya, explained that President Salva Kiir’s message to Burhan came within the framework of fraternal relations. He indicated that the meeting addressed a number of topics, with both sides exchanging views on them. The meeting also discussed issues related to the oil industry, trade, and investment.

He added that Sudan and South Sudan agreed on the necessity of engaging delegations from both countries in bilateral and technical meetings to address issues of common interest.
