Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Committee for the Transfer of the Remains of the Battle of Dignity in Khartoum Locality, in coordination with the Forensic Medicine Authority, on Sunday resumed exhumation and transfer operations of war remains from the Central Bus Station area and Jabra in the southern part of the locality. The operations resulted in the transfer of 93 remains to main cemeteries, including the exhumation of 87 graves in Jabra (Block 18) and 6 graves within the Central Bus Station.
The Executive Director of the locality, Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, confirmed that the work is being carried out in accordance with directives from the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State. He explained that the committee’s work falls within the framework of transferring and reburying the remains of the Battle of Dignity in coordination with the Forensic Medicine Department, moving them from emergency burial sites that residents resorted to in neighborhoods, markets, and public areas during the war to officially designated cemeteries.
Al-Bashir stated that the transfer operations were conducted after completing all legal procedures, including filing official reports and notifying the families of the deceased about the dates of exhumation and transfer, in addition to burying unidentified remains in cemeteries. He noted that work is ongoing across all administrative units until all targeted areas are fully surveyed before the onset of the rainy season, in accordance with reports from the specialized committee and neighborhood service committees.
The Executive Director added that priority in the transfer process is given to residential areas, schools, public squares, mosques, markets, and main streets with high population density, before moving to other locations. He called on neighborhood service committees and residents in the targeted areas to support the committee in the exhumation process, be present with the work teams, and provide the necessary information.
