Justice Minister: The Fact-Finding Committee Will Not Be Allowed to Enter Sudan
Cairo –Sudanhorizon-Sabah Moussa
Sudanese Justice Minister, Dr. Abdullah Darf, has confirmed Sudan will not refer investigation into the Rapid Support Forces militia’s crimes in El Fasher to the international fact-finding committee.
In exclusive statements to Sudanhorizon news website, Darf said that Sudan principally objects to this committee and has not recognized it since its formation, and will not allow it to enter the country.
The Minister has explained that the Human Rights Council’s actions are not binding, and that it is customary in such matters for the state to be consulted regarding the work of such committees, as it pertains to its sovereignty.
He added that Sudan has national investigation mechanisms that can handle this, noting that this is the first time there has been a clear condemnation from the Human Rights Council, and from Britain in particular.
He also said that, for the first time, the Council did not refer to what they call “the two parties to the conflict,” and he considered this a positive development resulting from global public pressure that led many countries to change their positions.
He stated that public opinion in Western countries significantly influences government decisions, adding that the international public pressure and widespread exposure of these violations have led many countries, including Britain, to change their stance and seek to appease their domestic public opinion by criminalizing this militia and designating it as a terrorist group.
The minister added that if the international fact-finding committee were to go to El Fasher, they would find no one there. He said that the people of El Fasher are now in the Northern State, adding that most of them fled the city, some were killed, and it is likely that the majority were killed along the way or died from thirst, hunger, or disease.
He noted that people traveled more than 800 kilometers to reach Ad-Dabba in the Northern State, and that they did not go to nearby cities like Nyala because the militia controls them. He emphasized that this is proof that all citizens in Darfur do not feel s the presence of this militia.
The Minister of Justice commented on the recent entry by the Sky News Arabia team into El Fasher, saying that the United Nations itself would not be able to enter El Fasher, so how did this channel enter?
He said that this is conclusive evidence that those in charge of Sky News, including the presenter Tasabih Mubarak, are part of the Rapid Support Forces militia’s charade, indicating that there are criminal complaints filed against the channel for violating the sovereignty of the Sudanese state and entering the country without legal procedures and entry permission.
