Isaias Afwerki: We Reject Any External Interference in Sudan

The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, held talks today in Port Sudan with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, who reiterated his rejection of any external interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.
According to the Sovereignty Council’s media office, the bilateral discussions addressed ways to strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries and to activate joint cooperation across various sectors, as well as security matters and economic and trade relations.
The two leaders reviewed the current developments in Sudan under the prevailing circumstances, exchanged views on regional issues of mutual concern, and discussed ways to contribute to achieving stability and peace in the region.
Both sides affirmed their determination to elevate bilateral relations to advanced levels and expand them towards broader horizons of strategic partnership that meet the aspirations of both peoples. They emphasised the depth of historical ties and underscored their commitment to coordinating efforts to achieve stability and development in the region.
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council expressed his deep appreciation for the level of relations between the two countries, describing them as strategic. He affirmed Sudan’s keenness to strengthen and expand them. Al-Burhan also praised the Eritrean government’s supportive stance towards Sudan, its commitment to Sudan’s unity, stability, and sovereignty, and its efforts to help achieve peace and security in the country. He highlighted Eritrea’s hosting of Sudanese displaced people, saying that this reflects the strong bonds of brotherhood.
Al-Burhan renewed the government’s commitment to continuing and strengthening joint cooperation across all fields in the interests of both peoples.
For his part, President Afwerki reaffirmed Eritrea’s firm position in support of Sudan’s unity, stability, and the preservation of its sovereign gains. He emphasised the longstanding nature of the relationship between the two countries and stressed his rejection of any external interference.
Afwerki underscored the importance of regional cooperation in addressing fundamental issues, stating, “The stability of Sudan is a prerequisite for the stability of the region.” He reaffirmed his country’s determination to deepen the bonds of brotherhood and strengthen joint cooperation with Sudan in service of the two nations’ shared interests.
