Addis Ababa – Sudanhorizon

On Tuesday, Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), addressed the organisation’s forum in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. Several special envoys from member states attended the event.

Workneh stated, “As the war in Sudan enters its second year, our focus and thoughts remain with our Sudanese brothers and sisters” to overcome this phase. He added, “Despite the challenges, I believe that unifying mediation efforts is the best way to reach a negotiated solution.”

Gebeyehu emphasised the “need to coordinate diplomatic efforts among all peace stakeholders. The peace process must ultimately be Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned, ensuring the country’s sovereignty.”

He also expressed gratitude to the people and government of Japan for their financial support in building mediation capacity.
