IGAD Official: Strengthening Cooperation on Strategic Minerals Can Secure Regional Energy

Director of Economic Cooperation and Regional Integration at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Mohieddin Al-Tihami, said the Conference on Mineral Resources Development and Strategic Minerals, currently being held in Cairo, represents an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation among IGAD member states in the areas of strategic minerals, value addition, and private-sector investment.
Speaking at the conference on Monday, Al-Tihami said strengthening cooperation among IGAD countries could contribute to securing energy and infrastructure, while efforts are also underway to create a favorable environment for attracting productive investments to support regional economic growth and sustainable development.
It is noteworthy that an IGAD delegation participated in the third Conference on Mineral Resources Development, Strategic Minerals, and Energy Sector Development in Africa, organized by the African Business Council on the sidelines of the African Union summit being held in Egypt.
