Education and Youth Ministers, Khartoum Governor Attend Opening of Fourth African School Championship

The fourth edition of the African School Championship was officially opened at the Family Club in Khartoum today (Sunday), with the participation of male and female students from schools in several Sudanese states. The competition targets students aged 11 to 14 and is organized by the General Administration of School Activities at the Ministry of Education and National Education, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris and the supervision of Minister of Education and National Education Dr. Al-Tihami Al-Zein Hajar.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education and National Education, the Minister of Youth and Sports, the Governor of Khartoum, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and National Education, the Minister of Education of Khartoum State, the Director General of School Activities at the ministry, the Director of School Activities in Khartoum State, as well as a number of education ministers from the participating states and Khartoum State officials.

Addressing the ceremony, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and National Education and Chairman of the Preparatory Committee, Dr. Ahmed Khalifa Omar, said the participation of Sudanese states in the fourth edition of the African School Championship sends strong messages and clear indicators of Khartoum’s recovery and the return of life and school activities to the capital.

During his address, the Undersecretary saluted the Sudanese Armed Forces, which he said is engaged in the “Battle of Dignity” and has achieved victories, stressing that the Ministry of Education and National Education dedicates the championship to the armed forces and to the country’s leadership in the Sovereignty Council and Council of Ministers.

He said the Ministry of Education and National Education attaches great importance to extracurricular school activities, considering them an integral part of the educational process and no less important than academic achievement. He noted that the ministry plays a fundamental role in preparing future leaders, scientists and professionals who will contribute to the country’s institutions.

He explained that the ministry’s programs and activities extend to every Sudanese household and family, emphasizing the importance of expanding school activities to help discover students’ talents, develop their abilities and build their personalities.

For his part, Director General of School Activities at the ministry, Abdel Jalil Saleh, described the opening of the championship as “a joyful day that history will record,” stressing that the presence of students and sports delegations in Khartoum represents an indicator of the capital’s recovery and the resumption of school activities.

Saleh affirmed that school activities are an integral part of the educational process, commending the African Union’s role in organizing the championship. He also announced preparations to organize a school championship for students under the age of 17, with the aim of discovering talents and developing young people capable of contributing to society.

He noted that school activities are not limited to football, but encompass a wide range of sporting, cultural and artistic disciplines, in addition to digital competitions. He emphasized their role in discovering and developing students’ talents and praised the entities that contributed to the success of the championship.

The opening ceremony began with a parade featuring male and female students, followed by the national anthem. Students from Al-Atta School in Omdurman then performed a choral presentation, while female students presented a cadet-style performance. The ceremony also featured a gymnastics demonstration by male and female students.
