A team from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is expected to arrive in Khartoum this week to inspect the organization’s headquarters in the capital and assess the damage sustained by its offices during the war. The team will also determine the required arrangements and equipment to prepare the office for resuming operations, in coordination with relevant Sudanhorizon News website .

Sudan has lifted the suspension of its membership in IGAD last February, following a freeze on its activities within the organization, of which it is a founding member for over three decades. At the time, Sudan accused some member states of lacking neutrality by siding with the Rapid Support Forces militias against the Sudanese army.

The organization’s Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, welcomed the Sudanese government’s decision to resume its full participation in the organization, describing Sudan’s return as a reaffirmation of regional solidarity and a collective commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation throughout the region.

The Executive Secretary considered Sudan’s resumption of activities, being a founding member state, as strengthening IGAD’s unity and enhancing its ability to address common regional priorities.
