IGAD Affirms Commitment to Strengthening Peace in the Region

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, has reaffirmed that the organization will remain committed in the new year to strengthening peace, building resilience, and amplifying the voices of women and youth who are shaping the region’s future.

In a statement released Wednesday, Gebeyehu said that the Secretariat will continue, together with member states and partners, to work towards a more secure, inclusive, and hopeful region for all.

He added, “As we welcome a new year, we do so with renewed hope and shared purpose in our collective strength as a region”

He noted that the past year, 2025, saw the organization experience numerous challenges, including conflicts, climate shocks, and economic pressures, but it also revealed the resilience of the region’s people and the enduring strength of solidarity among them.
