Health Minister to Address the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva

Geneva – Sudanhorizon

Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, arrived in Geneva on Saturday to lead Sudan’s delegation participating in the 79th session of the World Health Organization World Health Assembly, which is being held from May 18 to 23.

He was received at Geneva International Airport by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid.

The minister is scheduled to deliver Sudan’s official statement before the assembly, highlighting the severe damage inflicted on the country’s health system as a result of what he described as the systematic targeting of health facilities and infrastructure by the rebel militia, and the major challenges this has created for the provision of essential healthcare services to citizens.

During the event, the minister is also expected to participate in a number of ministerial meetings and accompanying activities, in addition to holding a series of bilateral meetings with fellow health ministers, heads of delegations, and leaders of relevant international organizations, including an anticipated meeting with the Director-General of the World Health Organization.
