Ground Defenses in Merowe Gunned Down Rebel Drone, No Casualties

Merowe – Sudanhorizon

A statement issued by the 19th Infantry Division in Merowe announced that the army’s ground defences successfully shot down hostile drones early Thursday without any casualties or damage to military equipment.

The statement, obtained by The Sudanhorizon, revealed that enemy forces targeted the 19th Infantry Division’s headquarters with several suicide drones. One drone crashed near the headquarters, causing damage to Merowe’s power grid substation. According to the statement, the drone attacks persisted from 12:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. Thursday.

The army called on residents of the Northern State, particularly in Merowe, to disregard rumours and assured that the armed forces remain fully prepared and vigilant to address any emergencies or foreign objects in the skies over Merowe and the Northern State.

The Sudanhorizon correspondent in Merowe reported that the damage to the substation resulted in power outages, which local authorities stated were being repaired by the relevant teams.

Despite the incident, life in the town and its surrounding areas appeared normal Thursday morning, with markets, schools, and government offices operating as usual.
