Government Urges International Community to Condemn RSF for Setting Fire to Oil Refinery
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the international community to condemn the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for setting fire to the oil refinery north of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
In a statement obtained by Sudanhorizon, the Ministry stated:
“The Janjaweed militia persists in its aggressive war against the Sudanese people, state, national institutions, and infrastructure. It exploits the leniency shown by Western powers and the United Nations towards it and its regional sponsors. This morning, the militia committed a heinous crime by setting fire to the Khartoum Refinery in Qary after realising they could not maintain control under the tightening siege by the armed forces and allied forces, who had overcome the extensive minefields planted around the refinery by the militia.”
The Ministry continued:
“We renew our call to all members of the international community to take the moral high ground by condemning this horrific crime and holding the terrorist militia and its sponsors accountable.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised that this despicable crime is another nail in the coffin of the criminal militia following a series of crushing military, political, and moral defeats. It affirmed that the Sudanese people, who have demonstrated remarkable resilience and bravery, are capable of recovering all that has been lost in the war imposed upon them.
The Ministry described the arson as a desperate and reckless act, highlighting the militia’s state of despair and defeat. It declared the attack a clear war crime and one of the worst forms of terrorism, underscoring the militia’s systematic targeting of essential development pillars, basic services, and modern infrastructure in Sudan.
The statement pointed to previous attacks by the RSF, including assaults on electricity stations in Merowe, Al-Shawak, Sennar, Singa, Dongola, and Um Debakir; countless water stations; irrigation machinery and canals in the Gezira Scheme; sugar factories in Al-Junaid and Sennar; and bridges, universities, banks, and commercial and economic hubs in Khartoum, Wad Madani, Singa, Nyala, Al-Fashir, and Al-Geneina.
The Ministry concluded:
“All these actions aim to empty the country of its population as part of the militia’s strategy of genocide.”
