Geneva Talks to Achieve Urgent Response for Refugees and Returnees in Sudan
Geneva – Sudanhorizon
On Saturday, Sudan’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamed Hassan, held a joint coordination meeting at the mission’s headquarters with Mamadou Dian, Regional Director of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes region, and Marie-Hélène, Head of the UNHCR Country Office in Sudan.
The meeting discussed ways to achieve the required response to the urgent needs of refugees, voluntary returnees, and host communities, in light of the funding shortfall affecting the overall emergency response plan prepared by UNHCR.
The Permanent Representative outlined the ongoing efforts of the Sudanese government and its continuous follow-up to accelerate the procedures of international organizations through the Higher Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies, as well as the humanitarian interventions being carried out by the state across various states despite limited resources, through the Humanitarian Aid Commission and the Commission for Refugees.
