Gen. Jaber: We Are Committed to Delivering Aid and Ensuring the Safety of Humanitarian Workers

Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, a member of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, reaffirmed the Sudanese government’s commitment to peace and its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of humanitarian teams and aid workers operating in the country.

During a meeting at his office in Port Sudan with Gilles Michaud, UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, Jaber emphasised Sudan’s full commitment to facilitating humanitarian aid delivery. He stated that the government is working to:

Ensure the smooth operation of humanitarian organisations,

Open border crossings and local airports for aid entry,

Guarantee the safety of international and regional humanitarian personnel.

UN Official’s Perspective

For his part, Gilles Michaud stated that his visit to Sudan aims to coordinate with the UN team in the country and engage with Sudanese authorities to assess how UN staff can continue serving Sudanese citizens safely.

He highlighted that the UN has been actively providing essential support for many years, particularly during the conflict. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to assisting the Sudanese people and ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
