The Free Arts Laboratory in Khartoum State has launched a major initiative to rebuild the National Theatre in Omdurman, coordinating with government authorities and security forces.

Nasser Al-Din Haidar, the laboratory’s secretary-general, stated that the initial estimated losses in buildings alone amount to $3m.

Nasser Al-Din called on companies, commercial institutions, and organisations working in the fields of culture and arts to participate in the rebuilding campaign so that the National Theatre can once again stand tall and safe.

A visit by several artists to the National Theatre revealed the extensive damage caused by the terrorist militia of the Rapid Support Forces to the buildings, properties, and artistic equipment.

Actor and technician Mamoun Issa, known as “Mamoun Clean,” said that the militia’s destruction reached the stage, the hall, the exterior buildings, and the water and electricity networks.

“Clean” confirmed that the initiative includes restoring the water networks and launching a major cleaning campaign in which all creative individuals will participate under the slogan “Hand in Hand, We Rebuild Our Homes.”

A group of artists, including director Tarek Al-Bahr, Mamoun Issa, Abdul Rafiq Bakhit, engineer Yasser Othman, Mr Al-Hilu, and Ms Amal, visited the iconic National Theatre to assess the extent of the damage.
