Geneva – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese government on Tuesday informed the United Nations of its commitment to facilitating and expediting humanitarian operations, spurred by its keenness to deliver aid to those affected by the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, held a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva with Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, following his recent visit to the Sudan.
The Permanent Representative reiterated Sudanese government’s unwavering commitment to facilitate and expedite humanitarian operations for all organizations, emphasizing that the government’s position on this matter is beyond reproach, as it is the most eager to deliver aid to those displaced by the militia’s atrocities.
For his part, Tom Fletcher reviewed the outcomes of his recent visit to the country and his meetings with senior officials in Port Sudan, describing them as positive and constructive.
He also spoke about witnessing the scale of the crimes, atrocities, and shocking violations of international humanitarian law and human rights during a visit to the Tawila region and his meetings with survivors arriving from El Fasher.
During the meeting, ambassador Hamid affirmed the government’s commitment to provide all required support through the Higher Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies and its continued efforts to keep border crossings open, including the Adré crossing, in addition to making several airports available for this purpose.
The delegate emphasized the government’s positive engagement with the efforts of its brothers and friends aimed at achieving peace and ending the war, in accordance with the requirements of the road-map submitted by the government to the United Nations on March 10, 2025. He stressed that any attempts to reinstate the militias would not be accepted by the Sudanese people, against whom these militias committed such brutal massacres and unprecedented atrocities.
