Fighting Intensifies Around El Fasher, Governor Says Attacks Successfully Repulsed

The Governor of North Darfur, Al-Hafiz Bakhit Mohamed, has confirmed that the forces defending El Fasher have successfully repelled a new attack launched on Friday by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia, supported by mercenaries, on the city from several directions.
The Governor added in press statements Saturday that the militia attacked the city yesterday from several directions, including the north, northeast, and southwest, using military vehicles, combat vehicles, and animals.
He indicated that the attack continued until sunset, with significant participation from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) forces led by Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu, along with large groups of mercenaries of various nationalities.
The Governor has meanwhile affirmed that the forces of the 6th Infantry Division, the Joint Force, the Police, the Intelligence Service, and the Popular Resistance wrote another chapter of heroism that would remain in the annals of history.
‘’They bravely and courageously repelled this violent attack. The enemy fled in terror in front of our brave forces, and the militia’s dreams of controlling El Fasher were shattered.’’ He said.
The governor, on behalf of the government and people of North Darfur as a whole, and the people of El Fasher in particular, congratulated the armed forces and their supporting forces on the great victories achieved.
He reaffirmed that his ‘’government stands with them until the scenes of joy are complete with the lifting of the siege of El Fasher, which is within reach.’’
He also congratulated the forces fighting bravely in Kordofan region, considering this an important step toward crushing the rebellion and expelling it from Kordofan and Darfur.
The Governor pointed out that the participation of Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu’s forces in Friday’s attack against El Fasher was not the first, as they had previously participated in previous attacks on El Fasher as part of a political and military alliance aimed at dividing Sudan and undermining its unity.
