FIFA Approves Increased Sudanese Media Coverage as of 2026 World Cup
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The World Football governing body, FIFA, has approved an increase in Sudan’s media quota for the 2026 World Cup finals, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to an official letter received by the Sudanese Football Association on Monday, FIFA explained that its decision to increase the quota was based on the positive record and active participation of Sudanese media outlets during the last three editions of the tournament, reflecting a professional commitment and continuity worthy of support and appreciation.
Accordingly, four additional accreditation were granted to print journalists, along with one accreditation for photojournalists, bringing the total to five accreditation for print media and one for photography.
This new quota matches the one Sudan received for the 2022 World Cup, a clear indication of FIFA’s renewed confidence in the competence of Sudanese media and its ability to deliver a professional picture reflecting the development of sports in the country, despite the challenges it is currently facing.
Within the regulatory framework, the letter indicated that the additional quota had been officially credited to the Sudanese Football Association’s account in FIFA’s quota management system. Furthermore, the FIFA Media Centre account belonging to Mr. Atef Ahmed Elsayed, Director of Media and Media Coordinator, was linked to FIFA’s account to streamline administrative procedures and ensure the smooth flow of registration and follow-up processes.
This increase represents a significant boost for Sudanese sports media, opening the door to broader coverage of one of the world’s largest sporting events and enhancing opportunities to showcase Sudanese expertise on international platforms, given the intense competition for media accreditation.
For his part, Mr. Atef Ahmed Elsayed expressed his deep appreciation for the prompt and positive response from FIFA’s media department officials, praising the cooperative spirit demonstrated in processing the Sudanese request.
He also specifically praised Mr. Alexander Holt, FIFA’s Director of Media Operations and Events Management, appreciating his great efforts and understanding of the needs of the Sudanese media, an approach that is not unusual for him, as he had previously cooperated with the Sudanese side during the 2022 World Cup, reflecting the depth of the existing professional relations and mutual respect between the two parties.
