Energy Minister: Restoring Production at Al-Sweidi Transformer Factory in Cairo

Cairo – Sudanhorizon

Sudan’s Minister of Energy, Engineer Mostafa Ibrahim Ahmed, has discussed with Ahmed Al-Sweidi, CEO of the Al-Sweidi Group, and Eng. Walid El-Deeb, Chairman of the Board, the possibility of restarting work at the group’s transformer manufacturing plant in Sudan.

The meeting took place in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday.

The Sudanese minister emphasized the strong and resilient relations between Sudan and Egypt, highlighting numerous joint projects and areas of cooperation between the two countries. He mentioned the investments of the Al-Sweidi Group, stating that they are “of great importance to us, given the destruction and theft of most transformers in Sudan.”

The minister urged the company to redouble its efforts to meet Sudan’s transformer needs, noting that Khartoum state alone lost more than 14,000 transformers due to looting and vandalism by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militia.

For his part, Ahmed Al-Sweidi expressed his willingness to cooperate with Sudan and confirmed the company’s readiness to supply the necessary transformers for the reconstruction of Khartoum state, thus facilitating the return of residents to their homes and workplaces.

Walid El-Deeb announced that the company has begun reconstructing its factory in Sudan, expecting it to be operational soon. The factory will be used for the maintenance and manufacturing of distribution transformers.

The Ministry of Energy stated that this visit comes as part of its efforts to revitalize the transformer manufacturing industry in Sudan. The Al-Sweidi company owns the largest transformer factory in Sudan and operates in partnership with the Sudanese Electricity Company.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Energy announced that it lost 60,000 transformers across Sudan, including 14,000 in Khartoum state alone, due to the systematic destruction and looting carried out by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
