El-Tijani Sissi: Continued Violation of Eastern Borders Leaves Sudan No Choice but to Defend Its Sovereignty

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa

Dr. El-Tijani Sissi, head of the National Movement Forces, stated that Sudan is witnessing a dangerous escalation in attacks on infrastructure and vital facilities by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, using drones launched from Ethiopian territory.

He noted that these attacks aim to disrupt electricity and water supplies and destroy civilian assets.

In an exclusive statement on Sunday, Sissi added that the drone attacks originating from Ethiopian territory could be a prelude to a larger aggression against the country via its eastern borders, pointing to reports of militia troop concentrations along the border.

He continued, “I do not rule out the involvement of external parties, acting in coordination with the militia, to open another front in the east—a move intended to relieve pressure on the militia in Kordofan and Darfur following the losses they have sustained over the past few months.”

Sissi emphasized that history demonstrates that Sudan has never been an aggressor state since its independence; it has consistently upheld the principles of good neighborliness and relied on diplomatic channels to address crises in neighboring countries.

While stressing the necessity of a diplomatic approach to the current crisis, he asserted that if the violation of the nation’s sovereignty and security persists, Sudan will have no choice but to exercise its legitimate right to defend its sovereignty.
