Egyptian Foreign Ministry Official: Quartet Will Not Recognize Militia’s Fake Government

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
Assistant Foreign Minister and former Sudan Administration Officer at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Hossam Issa, has confirmed that the formation of a parallel government in Sudan is a negative and reprehensible step.
In statements to Sudanhorizon news website, Issa, the former Egyptian ambassador to Khartoum, warned that a parallel government could be the first nail in the coffin of the unity and stability of any country.
He argued that such an action would perpetuate division and further complicate the political situation in Sudan. He pointed out that Egypt’s position on this parallel government has been clearly stated.
He said that “Egypt refuses to recognize such a government and it recognizes the Port Sudan government headed by Dr. Kamel Idris.” He emphasized that the parallel government of the militias will not receive any international or regional recognition because it lacks legitimacy.
He added that some countries may be dealing with it secretly, “but they will not recognize it.”
The former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister rejected the steps related to establishing a new parliament, appointing a speaker for this parliament, and any parallel institutions in Sudan.
He said that all efforts should be facilitated within the framework of bringing the parties together. He added that “we have examples of countries in the region where more than one government and multiple institutions exist, which has led to divisions in these countries over many decades.”
Issa believed that the upcoming meeting of the foreign ministers of the Quartet (the United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates) in Washington may be one of the reasons for the announcement of the militias’ fake government.
The Rapid Support Forces militia, he said, was a miscalculation on the part of the militia and its collaborators.
He emphasized that the Quartet would not recognize this government, and that its announcement by the Rapid Support Forces would have a negative impact on the Quartet, and that the militia would not gain any ground with the Quartet.
He said that this was evidence of a miscalculation on the part of those in charge of that entity, and that they would lose more support from the international community.
He explained that the positions of the Quartet countries are well-known, and that their upcoming meeting is not the first, as a meeting had previously been held at the level of Quartet ambassadors in Washington.
He added that the Quartet foreign ministers’ meeting next Wednesday in Washington will emphasize the preservation of Sudan’s unity, the pursuit of an end to the war, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the advancement of the transitional phase.
Issa considered the formation of the parallel government at this time to be evidence of the usual shortcomings in the political thinking of this militia and its collaborators.
He said that it will not receive the support of any country since the announcement of its intention to form it, stressing that it will not improve the image of the militia and its collaborators, whether in Sudanese or international public opinion.
He said that “it is political suicide for the parties, groups, and individuals participating in it”, adding this critical period in Sudan’s history has clearly demonstrated that there are political leaders who seek positions and personal and financial gains at the expense of the national interest.
He considered this as a detriment to the political future of these leaders and figures, and a loss to Sudanese and international public opinion, which strongly supports the Sudanese Armed Forces and rejects the idea of dividing Sudan and forming a parallel government.
