Egypt has condemned the escalation of drone attacks against civilian and vital facilities in Sudan, which have resulted in civilian casualties and the targeting of infrastructure—a flagrant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law.

Over the past few days, at least 13 oil and electricity facilities in Sudan have been struck by drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. These attacks have caused significant damage to infrastructure and led to power outages in numerous Sudanese cities.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Cairo’s categorical rejection of all forms of violence targeting innocent people, emphasizing the necessity of protecting civilians and ensuring they are not exposed to the dangers of military operations.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s firm position on the importance of halting the flow of weapons to the Rapid Support Forces militia through Sudan’s neighboring countries.

The Sudanese government has accused Ethiopia of providing launch sites for drones directed at vital locations.

Egypt reaffirmed its full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan, as well as the need to preserve its national institutions. It also stressed the importance for neighboring states to respect Sudan’s sovereignty and security, and to refrain from interfering in its internal affairs.

Furthermore, Egypt called for intensified regional and international efforts to reach a ceasefire, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and create the necessary conditions for a comprehensive political settlement—one that would end the suffering of the Sudanese people and fulfill their aspirations for security and stability.
