Economic Task Force on Border Trade Recommends Stronger Oversight and Review of Commodity Lists

The Economic Task Force established to develop urgent solutions to challenges affecting Sudan’s exports and imports met on Thursday under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Dr. Gibril Ibrahim to discuss measures for regulating and strengthening border trade in a manner that promotes commercial exchange and supports the country’s economic development.
During the meeting, Minister of Industry and Trade Mahasin Ali Yaqoub presented a report on the regulation of border trade, emphasizing the importance of reviewing all aspects of cross-border commerce to safeguard Sudan’s shared economic interests with neighboring countries.
The meeting agreed on the need to review the lists of commodities permitted for exchange through border trade and to strengthen coordination and integration between the federal government and state governments to ensure the effective implementation of border trade policies and improve the performance of the national economy.
Participants also recommended enhancing the capabilities of the relevant authorities responsible for combating smuggling and reinforcing oversight at border crossings to ensure that commercial activities are conducted through the state’s official channels.
