Dr. Muawiya Hamza Honoured at Academic Integrity Conference in Sweden

Sudanese academic Dr Muawiya Ahmed Hamza, Director of the Biomedical Research Department at the Second Riyadh Health Cluster, has received the “European Network for Academic Integrity Award” alongside three other scientists at the closing of the Academic Integrity Conference held at Uppsala University in Sweden from June 16 to 19.

Dr Muawiya received the award for his “active role in promoting a culture of academic and research integrity through the establishment of the Academic and Research Integrity Alliance in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa,” which organized two major conferences — in Dubai (2023) and Lahore (2025) — attended by over 500 scholars and specialists.

Dr. Muawiya Ahmed Hamza is considered a pioneer and founding figure in the emerging field of academic integrity. He graduated from the Faculty of Science at the University of Khartoum with a degree in biochemistry, earned his PhD from the University of Dublin in Ireland, and has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in international scientific journals. He has also co-authored chapters in scientific books and published six papers, specifically on the topic of academic integrity.
