Doctors: To Conceal Evidence, Militia Burned and Buried Hundreds of Bodies in El Fasher
Port Sudan -Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Doctors Network has reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia have collected hundreds of bodies from the streets and neighborhoods of El Fasher town in recent days. Some were buried in mass graves, while others were completely burned in an attempt to conceal evidence of their crimes against civilians.
In a statement released on Sunday, the network indicated that the militia flagrantly violated human values and international and religious norms that prohibit mutilating corpses and that call for respect for the right of the dead to a dignified burial.
The statement added that the crimes taking place in El Fasher transcend the boundaries of a humanitarian catastrophe and constitute a systematic genocide targeting human life and human dignity.
The network warned of the danger of the continued silence of the international community, which the statement described as “a shameful silence that amounts to complicity.”
It further called for immediate action from the international community and the opening of an independent international investigation into the violations committed in El Fasher, stressing that burning bodies or burying them in mass graves will not conceal the crime or absolve the perpetrators of legal accountability.
A recent report by the Yale School for Humanities Research Laboratory confirmed, through satellite image analysis, that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had blocked the only vital road used by civilians to escape El Fasher towards Qarani with heavy machinery, effectively besieging an estimated 200,000 trapped civilians.
The satellite images published by the laboratory showed “charred bodies” and “black smoke” at at least two locations, including the Saudi Hospital, where a mass killing took place. Experts concluded that this activity is consistent with the burning of bodies, a practice that violates Islamic burial rites.
