Darfur IDP Spokesperson to “Sudanhorizon”: The Humanitarian Situation After the Fall of El Fasher Is Catastrophic

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
Adam Regal, the official spokesperson for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in Darfur, stated that there is grave danger and tragedy facing those who have arrived at displacement sites, and that they are in dire need of basic life necessities.

Regal told Sudanhorizon in an exclusive statement that food shortages are the primary challenge facing IDPs, adding that difficulties in delivering humanitarian aid—particularly to the Tawila area—have resulted in displaced people not receiving their food rations.

He continued, “Sanitation is also one of the major problems.”
Regal called on humanitarian organizations to provide latrine-digging tools, as well as shelter materials, especially during these cold days, which are worsening the suffering.

Regal also highlighted the urgent need for life-saving medicines, in addition to psychological support for the displaced, who have lived through horrific humanitarian conditions, as well as education for children.

He affirmed that the humanitarian situation on the ground after the fall of El Fasher is catastrophic and extremely shocking, requiring urgent intervention. He added that conditions are especially dangerous for malnourished children and the wounded— all of whom are in desperate need of food and medical care.

The IDPs’ representative renewed his call for international organizations to move immediately to provide all essential life-saving supplies and necessities, to rescue the children and women who have been severely affected by the war, paid a heavy price, and continue to suffer.

He added, “We need a peace that ends all this suffering—one that begins with social dialogue among the diverse communities to end this hardship so that people can feel safe.”
