Darfur Associations Brief British MPs on Atrocities Committed by the Militia in El Fasher
London – Sudanhorizon
The collective of Darfur Associations in the United Kingdom delivered detailed briefings on Thursday to several Members of the British Parliament regarding the horrific violations and crimes being committed in El Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
The initiative forms part of the collective’s ongoing efforts to pressure the UK Government to fulfil its responsibility toward Sudan and to ensure that decision-makers are fully informed of the realities on the ground.
The briefing was presented during an event organised by the office of MP Shoukat Adam, Member of Parliament for Leicester South.
During their engagements with MPs, the collective stressed that the information presented—corroborated by The Guardian, satellite imagery, and eyewitness accounts—indicates that over 60,000 people have recently been killed in El Fasher, while a further 150,000 remain missing, their fate still unknown.
The organisation emphasised that these crimes were carried out systematically and along ethnic lines by the RSF militia, with direct support from the United Arab Emirates, a key British ally.
The collective also raised deep concerns about the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s removal of warnings of a potential genocide in Sudan from official assessment documents, prior to the El Fasher massacre—an act described as a serious breach of the UK’s moral and legal obligations to prevent mass atrocities.
Further, they presented MPs with pressing questions regarding how British-made weapons and military equipment ended up in the hands of the RSF, noting that some members of the Darfur Associations lost family members who were killed with weapons manufactured in the United Kingdom.
The collective called on MPs to:
Initiate an independent investigation into the Government’s handling of genocide warnings prior to the El Fasher massacre.
Launch a comprehensive inquiry into how British weapons reached the RSF.
Adopt a stronger and clearer British policy in support of international accountability mechanisms and the protection of civilians in Sudan.
