Tripoli – Sudanhorizon
On Sunday, Sudan and Libya signed an executive program for a cooperation agreement in higher education and scientific research. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Mohamed Hassan Dahab, on behalf of Sudan and by the Minister of Education, Professor Imran Al-Qeeb, on behalf of the Government of National Unity of Libya, in the presence of the Sudanese Ambassador to Tripoli and several university presidents from both countries.
The Sudanese Ambassador to Tripoli, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, told Sudanhorizon that a joint meeting was held between the two sides to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation in higher education and scientific research, explore opportunities for collaboration between Sudanese and Libyan universities, exchange faculty members, and address students’ challenges.
The participants agreed to facilitate all obstacles related to residency and employment, improve salaries, ease the procedures for appointing staff, and ensure the recognition of their academic degrees and qualifications through a specific mechanism. Additionally, a joint technical committee was formed to manage the registration of students applying to the University of Tripoli and other Libyan universities.
The ambassador mentioned that the Libyan side confirmed its commitment to enforcing the Libyan Prime Minister’s decision to treat Sudanese citizens like Libyans in all procedures and transactions, including exemptions from tuition fees and admission processes.
Ambassador Ibrahim affirmed that Sudan has agreed to reciprocate by offering the same treatment to Libyan students in Sudanese universities.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research is visiting Tripoli, accompanied by a delegation with representatives from several universities, including the University of Khartoum, Red Sea University, Al-Gedaref University, and the University of West Kordofan.
