CAF Approves Postponement of Al-Merrikh vs. Saint-Loupopo Match

Cairo – Sudanhorizon

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially approved on Saturday Al-Merrikh of Sudan’s request to postpone their match against Congolese side Saint-Loupopo to September 26/28 instead of September 18.

According to CAF’s approval letter, the return leg will be played at Al-Merrikh’s designated home ground in Benghazi, Libya, on October 3.

Al-Merrikh had submitted the postponement request citing the principle of fair competition, as the team was only notified of their opponent a week before the scheduled match, leaving insufficient time to complete travel and accommodation arrangements.

On Friday evening, the Sudanese club received an official notification from CAF confirming the participation of Congolese clubs, including Saint-Loupopo, in African competitions—thereby setting them as Al-Merrikh’s preliminary-round opponent.

The delay in naming the Congolese representatives was due to the late conclusion of the domestic league, which led to legal disputes between clubs. The matter escalated to CAF, which then ordered the Congolese FA to finalize and submit the names of participating clubs within 72 hours.
