The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Lamia Abdel Ghafar, addressed this morning (Saturday) in Cairo the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russian–African Partnership Forum, commending Russia’s strong positions in support of Sudan during the crisis the country is currently experiencing.

The Minister stated that Sudan looks forward to building strategic relations with Russia, pointing in this regard to the joint signing of the Protocol on Economic and Trade Cooperation between the two countries last September. She affirmed the availability of political will to develop bilateral relations between Khartoum and Moscow, which will mark seventy years of constructive cooperation, mutual understanding, and a forward-looking and motivated vision for further development by next year.

Dr. Lamia highlighted the importance of the Russian–African partnership through the outcomes of the two summits, ministerial meetings, the 2023–2026 Action Plan, and the expected outcomes of the current conference. She noted that this progress will contribute to realizing the African dream through the effective implementation of the continent’s Agenda 2063, praising the growing bilateral relations between Russia and a number of African countries.

In her address, the Minister commended the Russian principles based on equal sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and mutual benefit founded on shared interests. She called for the importance of undertaking comprehensive and inclusive reforms of the international system, particularly the United Nations Security Council and the global economic system, in a manner consistent with the principles of fair and equitable distribution of opportunities, in accordance with the UN Charter.

She affirmed that the double standards adopted by some countries in their practices and violations can only lead to further fragmentation and conflicts, and stressed that Sudan aspires for the Russian–African partnership to lay solid foundations for interconnected and constructive relations that contribute to combating negative phenomena such as terrorism, mercenarism, and cross-border crimes, in order to establish strong pillars of peace, security, and stability.
