BoK CEO: Targeting Sudan’s Oldest Bank Proves the War Is Directed Against the Citizen

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

The Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Khartoum, Lemia Satti, said that “the war that erupted in the country was primarily directed against the Sudanese citizen and civilian institutions, and what happened to Bank of Khartoum — the oldest and largest bank in Sudan — is clear evidence of that.”

This came during her inspection visit on Monday to the bank’s headquarters in central Khartoum, opposite the Presidential Palace, where she revealed that the headquarters is a historic building dating back more than 100 years.

Bank of Khartoum was originally established as the Anglo-Egyptian Bank in 1913, then became Barclays Bank in 1925, later the State Bank for Foreign Trade in 1970, and finally took its current name, Bank of Khartoum, in 1975.

Satti affirmed that the area in which the bank’s headquarters is located witnessed some of the fiercest battles between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces militia. She prayed for the martyrs of the Battle of Dignity, wished a speedy recovery for the wounded, and expressed hope for the safe return of the missing and abducted.

She also inspected several other branches of Bank of Khartoum that have resumed operations since the announcement of the liberation of Khartoum State.

The CEO praised the efforts of the bank’s employees in Khartoum and listened to feedback from customers regarding branch performance. She reaffirmed the bank’s determination to continue its journey in serving the nation and its clients in line with its slogan, “You First.”

The tour covered around 20 branches in the Khartoum and Jebel Aulia localities over Saturday and Sunday, January 24–25, 2026. Accompanying the CEO during the tour were the Director of Branch Management, Al-Tijani Karama; Head of Compliance and Governance, Mohamed Louay; Director of Customer Performance and Secretary of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Zahia Mohamed Abdeen; and the Director of Services and Head of the Khartoum Maintenance Committee, Montasir Al-Fadil.
