As Sudan Government Responds to USA Invitation… A Gloomy Future Awaits Geneva Talks
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese government finally responded to the United States’ invitation to conclude negotiations in Geneva on a ceasefire in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released (Tuesday) a press statement where the government expresses: “Thanks for all the sincere efforts to end the war broke out by the terrorist rebel militia of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo against the Sudanese people”, the government renewed in its statement “its readiness to engage in any negotiations to end the occupation of the terrorist rebel militia of cities, villages, citizens’ homes, public and private facilities, lift the siege on cities, and open roads for humanitarian aid”.
The government stressed that it is keen to preserve Sudanese lives and dignity. Therefore, it will cooperate with any party seeking to do so.
The government explained in its response that Jeddah Declaration have stipulated a comprehensive withdrawal and halt the spreading out of attacks on cities and villages, so any negotiations before its implementing “will not be acceptable to the Sudanese people subjected to displacement, murder, rape, ethnic cleansing, and looting of their properties”.
The government statement referred to the fact that one party attacks cities, villages and civilians daily. Thus, instead of opening new forums, the government response called for forcing the rebels and mercenaries to stop their continuing aggression against civilians, lift the siege on cities and open roads, this can be achieved by imposing sanctions that deter them and their supporters, since the parties of this initiative are the same as the parties to the Jeddah forum besides the topics are identical to what was agreed upon.
The government response indicated the need for prior consultation with the Sudanese government about the form and agenda of any negotiations and the parties participating in or attending them while stressing that the Jeddah forum and the agreement reached therein should be the basis.
In its response, the Sudanese government requested a meeting with the US government to prepare well for the peace negotiations and realise the benefits the Sudanese people expect from them.
Today’s response issued by the Sudanese government will put the US government before a new challenge. A diplomatic expert who spoke to the “Sudanhorizon” news website added that it will most likely force the USA to postpone the planned Geneva conference for the unknown delay.
