Arab Lawyers: Condemning Militia Government, Supporting Army Legitimacy

Cairo – Sudanhorizon
The Arab Lawyers Union has called for condemning the so-called “TASSIS ORfounding government,” declared by the Rapid Support Forces militia as a parallel authority to the legitimate government in Sudan. It urged support for national institutions, represented by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
The Union’s Secretary-General, Al-Makkawi Ben Issa, said in a statement on Tuesday that since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, the Union has been closely monitoring the widespread violations and crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia, which violate international and humanitarian law, as well as international human rights agreements and covenants.
He stated that a team of experts has been assigned to investigate these crimes. The team submitted its report weeks ago and continues to work under difficult conditions to prevent the daily crimes committed by these forces from being covered up.
The statement pointed out that the violations committed by the militia and its supporters from political groups and some regional countries did not stop at daily killings, looting of property, destroying facilities, and raping women. They also included the announcement of a so-called “foundation” government in Nyala, South Darfur State, and the appointment of the rebel Hemedti as president, alongside some armed militia leaders as deputies and ministers in the government.
The statement pointed out that one of the firm positions of the General Union of Lawyers is to affirm Sudan’s unity, independence, and sovereignty, and its internationally recognized legitimate authority, under the leadership of the Sovereign Council headed by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Council of Ministers headed by Kamil Idris.
The statement said the Union considers the attempt to tear Sudan apart into mini-states or governments to be at the heart of the Zionist imperialist targeting the Arab world.
The Union called on all living forces and vigilant consciences to condemn and reject the so-called “TASSIS- foundation” government in its entirety, and to stand with national institutions, foremost among them SAF, to complete the process of liberating the country and restoring stability and security to the Sudanese people.
