Analysis of the Statement Issued by the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Regarding the Announcement of a Rebel Government from Nairobi

By Dr. Mohammed Othman Awadallah

Today, 19 February 2025, the Kenyan Cabinet issued a statement in which it explicitly admitted to its blatant interference in Sudanese affairs by hosting a rebel group classified by the Sudanese government as a terrorist organisation and by the US government as a perpetrator of genocide.
Kenya attempted to manipulate the wording of its statement with rhetorical embellishments to obfuscate the truth and conceal its complicity with the Janjaweed through the following points:
Kenya sought to frame its blatant intervention in announcing a parallel government within a historical context of previous peace efforts, including the 2005 Naivasha Agreement. However, the difference is vast and undeniable. There is no comparison between mediation efforts involving the legitimate Sudanese government at the time and Kenya’s direct intervention in declaring a parallel government led by a terrorist rebel group.
The Kenyan government attempted to justify its actions by falsely presenting them as part of regional efforts under the African Union (AU), IGAD, and the United Nations (UN). This is a deceptive and fraudulent misrepresentation, falsely invoking the names of regional and international organisations to legitimise its actions.
Kenya preemptively sought to deflect any protests from the Sudanese government by claiming to be neutral and respectful of Sudan’s sovereignty. However, this feeble deception is laughably transparent—Kenya’s support and supply of aid to the militia have never ceased for even a moment.
To further mislead and mask its crime, Kenya exploited the suffering of the Sudanese people, displacement, and war crimes in its statement. It shed crocodile tears while hypocritically invoking human rights and democracy despite being part of the foreign invasion coalition responsible for these very crimes.
One of the most apparent admissions in Kenya’s statement is found in paragraph 8, which explicitly links its current efforts to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Taqaddum (Progress) party. This serves as self-incrimination and outright evidence of its complicity. Firstly, it contradicts Kenya’s claims of neutrality, and secondly, it confirms its direct support for an internationally condemned terrorist rebel group. This admission provides the Sudanese government and people with a firm basis to take action against Kenya.
Conclusion
The Sudanese and Kenyan public have erupted in anger over the Kenyan government’s position. Meanwhile, Sudanese citizens call on their government to reciprocate Kenya’s actions accordingly.
