The Congolese Football Federation officially announced on Monday the designation of Eagles du Congo as league champions and St. Lupopo as runners-up, following a legal dispute between the federation and several clubs, including TP Mazembe, which reached the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

According to the decision, Sudan’s Al-Merrikh will face St. Lupopo in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had given the Congolese federation a 72-hour deadline, expiring today, on Tuesday, to finalize the identity of its representatives, warning of possible exclusion from continental competitions.

If Al-Merrikh overcomes Lupopo, the club will go on to face South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the second round.

Meanwhile, Al-Merrikh has entered a training camp in Kigali, Rwanda, which will be completed by Saturday with the arrival of all its players, including foreign professionals.
