Al-Burhan Highlights International Criminal Issues with Minister of Justice

The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received Tuesday in his office in Port Sudan, the acting minister of justice, Dr. Moawia Mohamed Khair in the presence of Mr. Abu Bakr Omar, judge of the Supreme Court and head of the Liaison Office of the Government of the Republic of Sudan with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a press statement that followed the meeting, Dr Moawia said: “The meeting discussed several judicial issues, in addition to the positive points mentioned in the report of the prosecutor of the ICC, which included positive cooperation between the Government and the ICC.

The Minister added: “We believe that this constitutes a clear understanding of the efforts made by Sudan to achieve justice and prevent impunity.” According to a press circular published by the TSC Media.

Dr Moawia indicated that the meeting tackled the activities undertaken by the Ministry, represented by the files of international cases that the Ministry of Justice and the National Committee for International Cases intend to file in the near future against the terrorist rebel militia ‘Rapid Support Forces-RSF’ and the countries supporting it, besides the formation of the technical committee, which is at the core of its competencies to carry out this task.

The Minister of Justice confirmed that the meeting touched on reforming many legal legislations during the next stage, noting that he informed the president of the Sovereignty Council of the results of his recent visit to Rwanda and his meeting with his Rwandan counterpart, where they discussed aspects of joint cooperation in the fields of training and capacity building in the following: Transitional Justice and Impunity, since the Rwandan experience in transitional justice is very similar to the Sudanese one.
