Al-Burhan and Kagame Discuss Peace Efforts in Sudan

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, reaffirmed the Sudanese government’s unwavering commitment to peace during his discussion with Rwandan President Paul Kagame. He stressed that any peace agreement must respect the dignity and honour of the Sudanese people.

General al-Burhan pointed out that despite the Sudanese government’s constructive engagement with all peace initiatives, the RSF militia remains a significant obstacle. They have been obstinate, refusing to honour the commitments they made in the Jeddah Declaration signed on 11 May 2023.

According to a statement released by the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s media, General Al-Burhan briefed President Kagame on the situation in Sudan, notably the rebellion led by the RSF militia against the state and its institutions and the ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis.

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and President Paul Kagame met today (Monday) in Kigali, following Kagame’s swearing-in ceremony yesterday (Sunday) at the start of his new presidential term. The discussions also covered bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and enhance them.

For his part, the Rwandan President emphasised the strong ties between Sudan and Rwanda, expressing his gratitude to the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council for accepting the invitation to participate in the inauguration ceremony and for visiting Rwanda. He wished Sudan continued peace, security, and stability.

It is worth noting that the meeting was attended by the Director of the General Intelligence Service, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, and the Acting Ambassador of Sudan to Rwanda, Khalid Mousa Dafallah.
