AfDB Announces Resumption of Its Activities in Sudan Soon

On Thursday, in New York, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Mr. Akinwumi Adesina, on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly. The meeting focused on discussing the prospects of future cooperation between Sudan and the bank.

Al-Burhan praised the AfDB’s achievements across Africa and reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to overcoming all obstacles and challenges that the bank may face in resuming its operations in Sudan in the coming period. He appreciated the bank’s eagerness to return and engage in developmental work within Sudan.

Akinwumi Adesina, for his part, confirmed the bank’s strong desire to return to Sudan and collaborate with the government, stating, “There are ongoing arrangements with the relevant authorities in this regard.” He also announced plans for specific development projects in Sudan, highlighting the country’s significance and leadership role within Africa.

Adesina described AfDB’s investments in Sudan as successful and expressed a desire to strengthen further and expand this partnership to achieve the desired level of cooperation.

Sudan’s ambassador to Washington, Mohammed Abdullah Idris, and Sudan’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, attended the meeting.
