A Sovereign Council Humanitarian Affairs Advisory Discusses Protecting Civilians with a European Delegation

Brigadier General Mujahid Abdul-Jabbar, Director of the Executive Office of the Sovereign Council’s Humanitarian Affairs Advisory, met on Tuesday with a delegation of representatives from the Nordic countries.
The delegation comprises the Swedish Special Envoy to Sudan, the Finnish Ambassador to Cairo, and the Danish Ambassador to Addis Ababa, accompanied by a Danish diplomat. They discussed ways to strengthen humanitarian cooperation and support efforts to protect civilians in Sudan.
The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported that the Executive Director expressed Sudan’s hope for increased humanitarian aid and the expected active role of the European Union in supporting national efforts to address escalating challenges.
He also welcomed the positive stances of European countries supporting the peace process, emphasizing the need for urgent humanitarian issues to be a top priority for the European Union in the coming period.
For their part, representatives of the Nordic countries reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to protecting civilians and ensuring that vital infrastructure is not targeted, in addition to their commitment to continuing to support humanitarian operations and strengthening existing partnerships with Sudan.
The meeting comes as part of a series of coordination meetings aimed at expanding areas of cooperation with international partners and strengthening the humanitarian response in light of the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing.
