A Former Presidential Candidate Calls for Adding China, Russia, and Turkey to the Jeddah Platform

Former presidential candidate Dr Al-Samawal Hussein Othman Mansour called for including China, Russia, and Turkey as observers and facilitators in Sudanese talks, whether on the Jeddah platform or in Geneva. In an exclusive statement to the “Sudanhorizon” news website, Al-Samawal said that this would reassure the Sudanese leadership by ensuring that the facilitators do not show favouritism to one side over the other.
The former presidential candidate added that he stayed in Sudan for a year after the Rapid Support Forces’ rebellion outbreak, travelling between several cities before leaving the country to leverage his extensive foreign relations in favour of the Sudanese state and to support the armed forces. He noted that he remained in contact with the Russians and several European Union countries, recognising that stopping the war in Sudan requires external parties to support the Jeddah and Switzerland platforms. He suggested that Japan could host such talks as a neutral country.
Al-Samawal confirmed his support for a just peace that upholds the authority of the Sudanese state and respects its institutions, emphasising the need for a unified national army in Sudan. He also advocated for dialogue with all components of the Sudanese people, except those who have committed crimes against the nation or are involved in corruption, for which they should be prosecuted.
