Why I’m Positive About The Future of The World Being Better?

Al-Rafee‘ Bashir Al-Shafie‘
With all the signs, indications, and religious glad tidings, and with all the foreshadowing and the outlines of outcomes that have begun to appear on the horizon of the world and its destiny, it is inevitable that the world will become better. When this will happen, however, is known only to God. No one can specify the turning point at which the world will retreat from the state it has reached. Let us reflect on what leads me to this conviction—not out of wishful optimism or prophecy, but based on numerous signs and indications:
First:
The world as a whole has reached a dead end in co-existence and in accepting the human, geographical, and environmental diversity that God created. It has reached the peak of irrationality, lack of wisdom, and inhuman behaviour in the interactions among its inhabitants. If this continues, all will perish, for all are harmed upon its surface—and naturally, no one desires such an end. At some point, human “wisdom” will surely find a path towards a soft landing from this peak, for people still love life, and many still uphold ethical, moral, and spiritual conduct, guiding life with wisdom towards attaining the Hereafter. The world has not yet been emptied of wisdom.
Second:
Divine wisdom governs the continuity of the universe with its creatures—human beings included—and with the system of nature and the cosmic order. No matter how much the ignorant and selfish human destroys aspects of these divine systems, only God determines their end. Everything is in His Hands, according to the faith held by countless people on earth. The end of the world is God’s alone: “And He will leave the earth a level plain” Quran: 20:106
Thus, regardless of the destructive forces in the world, the matter begins and ends with God. He controls the rise and fall of corruption and tyranny, and He alone determines when and how the world will descend from the destructive peak it has reached. Imagine a rising line representing the world’s condition—once it reaches its apex, it must curve downward. But the shape of that curve, its height, and the moment of its decline are all governed by the Creator. The universe cannot simply perish at the hands of humans—except as God wills: “And you do not will unless God wills.”
Third:
Divine will—believed in by people of wisdom since the dawn of creation—requires that the universe has an end. But it also requires that “And We have already written in the book [of Psalms] after the [previous] mention that the land [of Paradise] is inherited by My righteous servants.” H. Quran 21:105. This inheritance of righteousness necessitates moral reform, sound belief, proper relations between humanity and God, and the cultivation of the earth as God chooses. When that time comes, the forces of falsehood—those who have led the world to this peak of destruction—will have no choice but to submit to divine compulsion, joining the system of righteousness once their power wanes and their numbers decline, at the moment God prepares the world for the righteousness foretold in the Psalms, the Scriptures, and the Qur’an. These are the people of wisdom, those deserving of righteousness and the inheritance of the earth, once the conditions of faith, reason, and divine guidance are fulfilled within them.
Fourth:
Many people, as individuals and societies, have reached the height of despair with the civil, capitalist, and materialistic order dominating today’s world—a system that has led to misery, chaos, bloodshed, and widespread destruction; the collapse of values and ethics; weakening of faith; and a war on religion in all its forms. Humanity has descended to a level of near-bestial conduct. It has become easy for a human to kill another; tyrants have become blind to the value of human life; wars have multiplied; global security has eroded; and governments now operate with extreme egoism, arrogance, and disregard for values and faith.
Materialism and the love of worldly life have reached their peak, and at such a peak, the rising line must bend and descend. When it does, the shift will favour goodness—even if the arrogant resist it.
Those with insight observe this global trajectory, recognising the widespread search for solutions and the increasing involvement of both believers and non-believers in efforts to find “light at the end of the tunnel.” Scholars and thinkers have turned to addressing the human condition, which has reached its lowest point. This signals what lies beyond the peak.
Fifth:
It is in the nature of the world—according to God’s decree—that it becomes ill and deteriorates, but does not die except at the moment and in the manner God has decreed. Despite the great conflicts between civilisations, the clashes among tyrants, and the struggles between oppressors and the oppressed, and despite the parallel tracks of truth and falsehood, every religion, philosophy, and human conviction—whether willingly or unwillingly—acknowledges that life and death, and the continuity or cessation of the world, lie in the hands of a Supreme Being, a Creator, even among those who deny God. “And if you were to ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they would surely say: God.”
This universal intuition will play a role in humanity’s eventual turn towards righteousness when that rising line reaches its furthest extent and has no option but to bend towards a better world. At that turning point, forces of evil will diminish, the state of global turmoil will cease, material power and oppression will fade—whenever God wills and determines that moment.
Conclusion
The world will become better. The sun will shine again without the crimson glow fed by the blood of nations. Peace, security, and compassion will spread among people. God’s blessings will continue to flow upon His creation. Souls will be guided—by God’s permission—because His promise stands:
“And indeed, We have written in the Psalms after the Reminder that the earth shall be inherited by My righteous servants.”
The inheritance of the righteous has not yet been realised in full. It represents the final outcomes of this universe. Though prophets, messengers, and the righteous who followed them have brought reform in various corners of the world throughout history, the complete reform is yet to come—but it will come, inevitably, in a time known only to God.
Despite the darkness we witness, the tyranny, the wars, the bloodshed, and the dead end reached by humanity, God’s will is something altogether different—utterly different—God willing.
