Sudanhorizon – Reports

Sudanese telecom giant Zain has celebrated the graduation of more than 380 young men and women as part of the second phase of its vocational and technical training project, conducted in collaboration with the Sudan University of Technology. The university oversaw both theoretical and practical aspects of the training through its colleges spread across several Sudanese states. This phase included youth from the states of Al-Jazirah, River Nile, and Northern State.

Launched two years ago, the initiative is part of Zain’s commitment to supporting local communities and empowering youth by enhancing their skills and mitigating the impact of war. The project contributes to lowering unemployment rates and creating real opportunities for a better future.

Al-Gold – Northern State

On July 24, 2025, the town of Al-Gold hosted a graduation ceremony for 130 trainees, overseen by Al-Gold Technical College. The event took place at the college campus in the presence of Mr. Abdel-Majeed Dahab, the Northern State Governor’s representative and executive director of Al-Gold locality, along with college officials and Zain representatives. The training focused on four key fields: solar energy systems, general mechanical fundamentals, soap and paste production, and inspection and maintenance of gasoline vehicle electrical systems.

Wad Madani – Al-Jazirah State

On Sunday, August 3, 2025, Zain celebrated the graduation of 140 young people in Wad Madani, capital of Al-Jazirah State, under the supervision of Wad Madani Technical College. The event was attended by Mr. Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, Governor of Al-Jazirah State, and several local officials. The training covered six disciplines: solar energy systems, electrical installations, general mechanics, vehicle electrical systems, electronic diagnostics for vehicles, and internal combustion engine maintenance.

Shendi – River Nile State

On the same day, Shendi city hosted a graduation ceremony for 111 trainees under the guidance of Shendi Technical College. Professor Hassan Awad Al-Karim, President of Shendi University, attended the event along with representatives from the locality and Zain. Training topics included electrical wiring and installations, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance, vehicle electrical system diagnostics and maintenance, electronic vehicle diagnostics, and welding and engine overhauling.

Tangible Impact and Real Value

Many graduates expressed their joy at participating in the program, highlighting the immense value it added to their lives, particularly through hands-on experience at key service institutions such as the Shendi elderly care center and the University of Gezira in Wad Madani. This real-world training not only enhanced their skills but also allowed them to give back to their communities.

It is worth noting that Zain’s vocational training initiative was launched in response to the challenges posed by the war, with the goal of instilling hope among youth and equipping them with practical skills for the job market. The first phase trained over 1,300 young people across 10 cities. The second phase aims to train 700 youth in six cities: Al-Gold, Shendi, Wad Madani, Damazin, Sennar, and Gedaref.
