The Sudanese Ministry of Culture and Information announced the temporary lifting of the suspension of the Saudi Al-Sharq Channel’s operations in Sudan.
This came during a meeting between a delegation from the Saudi Al-Sharq Channel and the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Ms. Samia Al-Hadi Ahmed, in the presence of Mr. Mujahid Mohammed Satti, Director of the General Administration of Foreign Media at the Ministry. According to the Ministry, the meeting discussed ways to lift the temporary suspension of the channel’s operations in Sudan.
Mr. Mujahid Mohammed Satti provided a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the violations and the circumstances that led to the suspension decision, stressing the need for accuracy in the future in disseminating news “from official state sources” and avoiding the dissemination of false news that could threaten national security.
For his part, Mr. Khaled Awis, Director of the Al-Sharq Channel Office in Sudan, affirmed the channel’s commitment to the regulations governing professional media work.
After discussion, it was decided to lift the suspension of the channel’s operations in Sudan.
The Director of External Media at the Ministry of Culture and Information emphasized that the principle of press freedom is a fundamental pillar of the ministry’s policy and approach, emphasizing that penalties will only be imposed in the event of a violation of professional standards or the publication of false news that could affect the country’s security and stability.
It is worth noting that Al-Sharq TV’s activities were temporarily suspended on February 20, 2025. The ministry stated that this was due to its violation of the professional standards governing the work of foreign media outlets authorized to operate in Sudan, which prioritize the accuracy of published news and refrain from publishing inaccurate information.
