Sudan: An Increase in Electricity Tariffs

The Sudan Electricity Company has announced an introduction of new electricity tariffs, which will cover all community sectors, saying the change was dictated by the increase in some production costs.
In a release it issued on Monday the company argued that this decision comes in light of the current economic challenges facing the electricity sector. These challenges it said include the significant increase in the cost of production inputs, and the scarcity of hard currency needed to purchase spare parts and provide maintenance services.
It however promised to fully commit to developing the network and improving services provided to its clients.
