Mayada Suwar al-Dahab: Sudanese Dialogue Offers a Golden Opportunity

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Dr. Mayada Suwar al-Dahab, leader of the Democratic Liberal Party and head of the National Foundation Platform Initiative, announced the submission of a roadmap for the “Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue.” This announcement followed her meeting on Monday with the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee at its headquarters in Khartoum.
Suwar al-Dahab stated that the call for a genuine, home-grown national dialogue represents a historic, golden opportunity to steer the national path back onto the right track. She noted that the roadmap it presented is grounded in several fundamental principles, including ending the state of acute political division and regional and international polarization, and prioritizing Sudan’s supreme interest above any other narrow considerations.
The head of the National Foundation Platform Initiative emphasized that solutions must stem from a purely Sudanese will, while upholding the Sudanese people’s intellectual and political ownership of managing their country’s affairs. She also highlighted the need to transition from the preparatory phase to an institutional and sustainable political process that addresses the root causes of the historical and political crisis.
She added that the initiative proposes a gradual, well-considered path toward achieving lasting stability, listening to diverse visions and proposals, and fostering a conducive general political climate. The initiative also aims to broaden the scope of discussion to include all political and societal forces in order to deliberate on transition issues and the root causes of the crisis. It called for convening an inclusive consultative conference bringing together all active forces to establish the foundations and key pillars for the upcoming dialogue and to build a unified national framework. The ultimate goal is to reach free and fair elections that culminate the smooth democratic transition with a stable, elected political authority reflecting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
She emphasized that the success of this initiative is inextricably linked to several fundamental conditions and practical guarantees. Foremost among these is a bottom-up approach—starting with grassroots communities and local elites—in contrast to previous elitist models that excluded the public from decision-making. There is also a need for genuine, effective integration between political and societal forces within a unified negotiation process.
She further acknowledged the role of the international and regional communities in supporting and facilitating the process, provided they respect Sudanese sovereignty and the initiative’s strictly national ownership.
Dahab further noted that the dialogue preparatory committee has received the presented proposals and ideas positively, with active efforts underway to accelerate the pace of work and agree on an inclusive institutional format that ensures everyone’s engagement in halting the war and achieving sustainable peace
