Livestock Ministry Stresses Coordination With States to Develop Sector for Post-War Period

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between the federal government and the states to advance the livestock sector during the coming period, noting that the sector represents a key pillar of Sudan’s economy in the post-war period.
He made the remarks during a meeting with North Kordofan State Governor Abdel-Khalik Abdel-Latif Wadaa Allah and the state’s Minister of Production and Economic Resources Musa Idris Adam, in the presence of the Director of Quarantine and Meat Health and the Director General of Epidemiology and Animal Health at the Undersecretary’s office.
The Undersecretary revealed the ministry’s plan regarding export policies and exports from production areas, as well as its direction toward establishing livestock production cities and implementing the required international systems and standards. He affirmed that North Kordofan is one of the pivotal states in the sector and is receiving special attention to restore its competitive advantage.
For his part, the Governor of North Kordofan stressed the importance of the state and its strategic geographical location, as well as its role within the belt relied upon to provide food during the post-war period. He pointed to the extensive damage suffered by the state as a result of violations by the militia.
The governor affirmed his government’s determination to focus on the livestock sector in preparation for the recovery phase, revealing a five-year plan that includes holding a forum titled “El Obeid, Capital of Livestock in Sudan,” in addition to a proposal for an integrated system for the livestock industry and its products.
The meeting affirmed the need to accelerate efforts to implement livestock sector projects with the aim of upgrading and developing the sector and increasing meat and dairy production.
