Mohammed Mohammed Khair: Al-Atta’s Remarks on Al-Burhan’s Leadership Are Not Made in Passing
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Mohammed Mohammed Khair said that the entire capital, Khartoum, does not support the Sumoud Alliance, the Nairobi Forces, or Massad Boulos, nor does it support any solution coming from abroad.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Khair said that after spending a month inside the capital and visiting all of its localities, he could say that all of Khartoum is now prepared for a decisive victory by the Sudanese Army. He noted that this is what Sovereignty Council Chairman General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan has been saying throughout the past month.
He added that the remarks by Army Chief of Staff General Yasser Al-Atta about Al-Burhan leading the country for consecutive terms were not made in passing, explaining that Al-Atta’s comments reflect public opinion within the military institution and that army officers and soldiers support Al-Burhan as president. He said Al-Atta may have intended to refer to four terms, underscoring the unprecedented alignment and support around the army commander since the era of General Abboud. He noted that this is clearly reflected on the Sudanese streets.
Khair said courage, chivalry, and complete readiness to act with boldness and bravery are among the most prominent qualities distinguishing Al-Burhan from all previous leaders. He affirmed that the Sudanese public holds the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council in very high regard. He also expressed his support for Al-Atta’s view that Sudanese political parties are not yet qualified to govern, saying that the main problem facing the country’s political parties is their open appetite for power. He added that when they govern, they feel as though they are not actually exercising power, in addition to their lack of experience.
Khair pointed out that throughout Sudan’s history, political parties have produced only one professional figure, Abu Zeid Mohammed Saleh, who was put forward by the Sudanese Communist Party during earlier periods. He argued that most of the figures presented by political parties had no professional connection to the technical responsibilities of the ministries they headed.
He said what is required of political parties at the current stage is to focus on building professional capabilities among their members so that they are qualified to assume executive and technical positions in the state. He noted that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council has so far not put forward any political program.
The Prime Minister’s political adviser said Al-Burhan is fighting and awaiting the outcome of the war in the hope that victory will be achieved. He added that Al-Burhan faces external difficulties and regional and international conspiracies, but has nevertheless managed to make some inroads internationally.
He continued: “At least there is a group in the United States that, I would not say, stands with Al-Burhan, but rather stands with the clear truth.” He also pointed to the existence of regional forces supporting Al-Burhan.
Khair argued that the Western world is not the decisive factor in the Sudanese issue and is not qualified to play such a role. He described the current war as “Britain’s war against Sudan,” saying that as time passes, and as a result of the army’s bravery, the commander-in-chief’s steadfastness, and the great enthusiasm for popular mobilization, the outside world will come to see that there is a rock that is impossible to break.
Khair accused the Sumoud Alliance of taking its orders from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, saying that regardless of how much the alliance attempts to conceal this, all of its positions clearly demonstrate it.
He affirmed that the future of dialogue from within Sudan, despite opposition from external forces, will bear fruit. He also expressed confidence in the neutrality of the Committee for Preparing the Dialogue, based on his knowledge of its members.
He said some members of the committee have not received sufficient attention, but described them as trustworthy figures. Among them, he cited Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim, who previously served as an adviser to the Sudan Liberation Army led by Minni Minnawi. He described Ibrahim as a respected Darfuri activist and said his presence on the committee reflects considerable political wisdom.
Khair also pointed to senior Middle East journalist Osman Mirghani, novelist Abdel Aziz Baraka Sakin, and intellectual and politician Dr. Al-Wathiq Kameir. He stressed that it is impossible to overlook the intellectual and political judgment of these figures or question their patriotism.
He affirmed that the group is unbiased and patriotic, while noting that there is still no clear vision regarding the committee’s eventual outcomes. He explained that its role is to prepare the ground for dialogue and that it is meeting with various figures and political parties.
Khair concluded by saying he believes the process will succeed over time as political parties become more organized and engaged.
